The Last Dance at Karlin Hall
4:00 PM - 11:PM
Hosted by Frank Moravcik |

|
Here are some bands and jam pictures saying farewell to Karlin Hall
including a fill-in band, Northern Ohio BB Players, Magic Buttons, Frank Moravcik Band,
John Pastirik Band, Polka Pirates, and Jam with various players including Jennifer Fajtek,
Elmer Phillips, Dan Peters, Fred Ziwich, John Pastirik, Ed Zalar, Larry Zaletel, Hank
Guzel Sr.and others, whose names escape me, but you know who you are, joining in with
various groups.
Special mention to Paul Stejskal who played drums the whole afternoon
and evening except for a short time to dance with his wife while Jim Riley took over. I
played bass with the Northern Ohio group and the Jam. I started my bass playing stint here
at Karlin Hall with Northern Ohio in 2003, and was only fitting that I was the last bass
player to play here closing out. :)
The Fleet Avenue Polka was played at the beginning and end of the event.
The hall is closed and sold but the dances will continue at the Ampol
Hall on Pearl Rd July 7, 2010.

Remembering Phil Perko
October 11,1946 to October1, 2007 RIP+ |
 |
I only knew Phil since 2003. Besides being a great
accordionist he was just an all around great guy and friend. We played together in the
Dan Novinc and Friends band at the Slovene Home for the Aged, and at various other
gigs and jams, notably at the Fairport American Slovenian Club, Recher Hall 4-R's
Reunions, and Karlin Hall Button Box Bash, and Recher Hall Super Button Box Bash. Here are
some pictures: |

Concert at Gateway Manor
June 7, 2006
By Kathy Hlad
Clevelands own, Joey Miskulin, the "Cow-Polka King" of
Nashville and member of the famous country group Riders in the Sky along with
Canadas Walter Ostanek appeared at the Gateway Manor in Cleveland where his lifetime
friend Lou Trebar is a resident. On Wednesday, June 7th the residents were
treated with a musical extravaganza featuring Joey, Walter, Jim Kozel, Bob Kravos, Ken
Zalar, Ed Spondike, Russ Imburgia, John Bolibrush and Kathy Hlad not to mention the great
Lou Trebar. They were also treated by the vocals of the famous tenor Eddie Kenik and Ed
Morel. To end the session, everyone was treated to a solo from the Kid as Lou
Trebar affectionately refers to Joey who played his new Baldoni with a custom made double
bass that sounded like the deep resonant sound of the button accordion. It was proof
without a doubt that Joey is the best accordion player around. Lou Trebar recently
celebrated his 85th birthday and his performance that afternoon showed everyone
why he is the Waltz King. Tony Petkovsek was seen in the audience with his hand held tape
recorder to help preserve this memorable occasion. All the musicians and residents would
like to thank Mary Jo Ivec, activities director, for all her hard work in arranging this
and all the functions to help keep the residents of the Gateway Manor active and happy.
